New “Roll for Initiative” D&D Secret Lair Superdrop Arrives

If you’ve been following Magic: The Gathering for any length of time, chances are you’ve run into a Superdrop before. Released under Wizards of the Coast’s Secret Lair line, these high-end, limited-time releases include custom art, reprinted cards and unique foil variants, all built around a shared theme or brand. Once the Superdrop ends, it’s gone for good, which is why many of the cards end up fetching top dollar on the secondary market after a release.
For the latest Superdrop, Wizards is leaning hard into crossover territory with Roll for Initiative, a Dungeons & Dragons–themed collection that pulls heavily from Baldur’s Gate, Ravenloft, and the Forgotten Realms. It’s only the second time we’ve seen this a D&D Superdrop, following the 50th anniversary Secret Lair back in August of 2024.
So are these new D&D cards worth shuffling into your Magic deck? Below, we roll into all the details.
What is the new “Roll for Initiative” DnD MtG Superdrop?
The Roll for Initiative Superdrop consists of seven individual Secret Lair drops, each focused on characters, monsters and lore taken from Dungeons & Dragons, including Baldur’s Gate 3.
Shadowheart’s Devotion
Inspired by one of the most popular companions fromBG3, this drop reimagines five Magic cards through the lens of Shadowheart’s conflicteddevotion to the dark goddess Shar. The cards included are: Shadowheart, Dark Justiciar (a Legendary Creature), Beseech the Queen (a Sorcery), Black Market (an Enchanment), Victimize (another Sorcery) and Ancient Bronze Dragon (an Elder Dragon Creature).
Gale’s Ambition
The character of Gale from BG3 also gets the spotlight in a spell-heavy drop focused on intellect, arcane power, and classic blue Magic effects. The five cards are:
Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy (a Legendary Creature), Personal Tutor (a Sorcery) and Arcane Denial, Archmage’s Charm, Brainstorm (all of which are Instants).
Black Lights & Dark Dungeons
This drop leans into retro 70s fantasy vibes, with similar art to what we saw with the alternate cover for the Dragon Delves D&D anthology. There four cards included in this drop are: Seasoned Dungeoneer (a Creature), Displacer Kitten (a Creature), Tortured Existence (an Enchantment) and Sefris of the Hidden Ways (a Legendary Creature).
Shadows Over Baldur’s Gate
This drop includes a number of creatures inspired by monsters and classes from D&D and the legendary city of Baldur’s Gate. The four cards on offering are: Prosper, Tome-Bound (a Legendary Creature), Xorn (an Elemental Creature), Wild-Magic Sorcerer (an Orc-Shaman Creature) and Grim Hireling (a Tiefling Rogue Creature).
Whispers in Candlekeep
This drop draws inspiration from the legendary library of Candlekeep in the Forgotten Realms and features a variety of powerful creatures. The four cards are: Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm (a Dragon Spirit Legendary Creature), Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient (a Legendary Dragon Creature), Dragonborn Champion (a Creature) and Counterspell (an Instant).
Strahd’s Descent
This set draws from Ravenloft and features a reimagined take on the dreaded Dark Lord Strahd von Zarovich. The four cards included in the drop are: The Devil Strahd (a Legendary Vampire Creature), Cast-Off Consort (a Creature), End the Festivities (a Sorcery) and Castle Ravenloft (a Land).
Lands of the Forgotten Realms
Rounding things out is a full basic land drop illustrated with iconic locations from across the Forgotten Realms, including Waterdeep and Skullport. There are 10 cards included in the set (with 2 of each land):
How much is the “Roll for Initiative” D&D Superdrop?
Non-foil editions of each set retail for $29.99 USD, while Foil editions go for $39.99 USD (which comparable to what we’ve seen with past drops). You can also pick up the All Dice Cast Bundle, which includes all seven drops in both foil and non-foil for $464.99 USD.
As usual with Secret Lair pricing, the value proposition depends heavily on how much you care about alternate art, theme cohesion and Commander-friendly reprints rather than raw singles value.
When Will the New Roll for Initiative D&D Superdrop Be Available?
The Roll for Initiative Superdrop goes live on February 9, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. PT, exclusively through the Secret Lair storefront. Wizards of the Coast has also confirmed that a pre-queue opens one hour earlier, allowing interested buyers to line up before sales officially begin. Once the sale starts, checkout positions are randomized among those already in the queue, which is designed to reduce site crashes while still rewarding early shoppers.
As with all Secret Lair releases, availability is limited, and popular drops can sell out quickly.
Final Thoughts
Over the years we’ve seen more and more crossover between Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, so it’s not surprising to see this latest Secret Lair Drop. And while they’re definitely not cheap, they’re likely to get snatched up quickly by fans of both games.
